What is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) is a specialized treatment for trauma and PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder).  Trauma can be any event that causes extreme fear or distress and still bothers you even though it is in the past.  EMDR treatment uses eye movements, tapping, or other types of bilateral stimulation to help the brain reprocess and heal from traumatic memories.  More information can be found at emdria.org

A few other methods I that I use frequently include:

Mindfulness and Self-Compassion

Mindfulness means awareness of the present moment, with acceptance and without judgement.  Mindfulness and compassion practices have been taught for thousands of years in Eastern contemplative traditions. Currently, studies continue to show more evidence of how beneficial they are physical and emotional health.  Mindfulness can include formal meditation or informal practices throughout the day.  Compassion is meeting pain and suffering with care and the desire to help. Self-Compassion is treating yourself like you would treat a friend or a loved one. Mindfulness combined with Compassion and Self-Compassion practices are incredibly powerful for healing and ongoing self-care.

**Some of my teachers include Thich Nhat Hanh, Tara Brach, Kristin Neff, Christopher Germer, and Jack Kornfield, among others.

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is one of the most well-researched and evidence based therapy techniques.  It focuses on helping you improve awareness of how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are related.  It helps you build skills to identify and change thoughts that are not helpful or that cause suffering so you can feel better.

Integrative Care

We will focus on healing the mind, body and spirit at the same time.  Some examples include: incorporating guided relaxation techniques, meditation, prayer/spirituality, aromatherapy, yoga, nature, exercise/movement, nourishing your body, building your social support network, pets, music, art, journaling, reading, collaboration with your healthcare professionals or other supportive people in your life.  I have special interest in learning about how the brain, body, and emotions are interconnected.

Some of my most important values are: Love, Justice, Compassion and Connection.

I’d love to learn about your highest values and support you making choices that feel aligned with these values.

All emotions are powerful messengers and have something important to teach us. We will hold space together to listen and honor the wisdom behind the feelings while moving through them with flexibility.
